AA Smartfuel™ is a fuel discount reward programme available free to all New Zealand motorists. Accumulate fuel discounts from a wide range of retailers, including Thrifty, where you can earn a 4 cent per litre fuel discount per rental day.

How it Works

  1. Present your AA Membership Card, or AA Smartfuel Card, or collect a FREE Smartfuel card from any Thrifty branch when collecting a vehicle.
  2. Register your Smartfuel card online at www.aasmartfuel.co.nz. You MUST register before you can redeem fuel discounts.
  3. Swipe your card to redeem cents per litre (CPL) when you fuel-up at a Caltex or BP service station.

Terms and Conditions
  • An AA Membership card or AA Smartfuel card must be presented at time of vehicle pick up to qualify for the fuel discount.
  • Maximum 50 litres of free fuel.
  • Maximum $2 per litre fuel discount per hire period.
  • AA Smartfuel is valid in conjunction with Thrifty retail promotions.
  • AA Smartfuel discounts are not available in conjunction with any other loyalty or points programme, i.e. Virgin Velocity.
  • Fuel discount will be credited to customer’s AA Smartfuel account within 7 working days following vehicle return.
  • Fuel discount can be redeemed at participating AA Smartfuel Service Stations.
  • It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure their AA Smartfuel account is activated at the time of returning the vehicle to ensure the fuel discount is credited to their account.
  • A rental day is defined as 24 hours from time of pick up.
  • Not valid in conjunction with wholesale or structured contracted rates.
  • Only one AA Smartfuel account holder is eligible for the fuel discount per rental day.
  • All car rentals must meet the standard age, drivers license and credit requirements of Thrifty.
  • Valid for car rentals within New Zealand only.
  • AA Smartfuel terms and conditions apply.
