Not too far at all from Picton, Momorangi Bay makes for a great stop to check out before you head deep into Marlborough Sounds. Less than a half an hour drive from the centre of Picton, Momorangi Bay stuns with a sheltered bay that provides opportunities for travelers to try their hand at fishing and swimming, all while backdropped by the gorgeous Queen Charlotte Sound. Momorangi Bay is also a great place to stay the night if you’re wanting to extend your day trip into an overnight one—the glow worms that are on display just a short walk from the campsite is truly a sight to be seen! The jetty is also a hub of exciting water activities and provides a pretty epic view as you jump off from the end and into the shimmering turquoise bay. 

 

Embrace the Rolling Hills Around the Snout Track 

You don’t have to venture far from Picton at all to discover some serene slices of beauty. If you’re looking for a day trip or nature stop a little closer to your home base of Picton, but still with incredible views of Marlborough Sounds, then Snout Track is the one for you. This easy walk can be reached by driving down to Victoria Domain in Picton, then following the track out toward the Queen Charlotte View Lookout. This version of the walk is three hours return, however if you’re wanting to up the ante of your adventure, begin your hike from the Picton foreshore for a four hour return trip. Either way, this is a great way to get your heart pumping and your brow sweating, all of which will be rewarded by the stunning views that will have you dropping your jaw to the floor. Remember to bring your camera for this adventure!
