Blue Chip FAQ's

How long will it take to receive my Blue Chip membership details?

You’ll receive your membership number automatically after you submit the application.

Can I make an urgent Blue Chip booking before I've received my Blue Chip Membership Number?

Yes. Simply make the booking via the website or through our Reservations Department using the membership number you received after applying online.

What do I need to collect a Thrifty hire vehicle?

You will need to show your Drivers Licence each time you rent.

What must I do before I drive away?

Before you leave the location from which you have rented your vehicle, you should inspect the vehicle and make sure it is in the condition shown on the Vehicle Inspection Sheet. You should report any differences immediately to the staff at the pick-up location. You should also make sure you have any equipment you have requested. If you have any queries, you should go back to the rental counter.

I want to make a car hire booking for overseas but my Blue Chip Number doesn't seem to work?

For security reasons your Blue Chip details are not recognised internationally. But don’t despair. International rental car reservations can be made by visiting www.thrifty.com and Australian rental car reservations at www.thrifty.com.au. Please do not enter your Blue Chip number on this website – simply enter BLUE into the promotion code field. Upon arrival, present your Blue Chip Membership card. Easy!

Can I add a partner/colleague to my Blue Chip profile?

Unfortunately not. Blue Chip membership can only be used by the person whose name appears on the card. Your Blue Chip profile contains specific information such your licence details and date of birth. Partners or colleagues can be added to the car rental contract upon collection (provided they’re at the counter with you). Or they can establish their own Blue Chip membership.

I am being asked for a password when I attempt to log in, but I can't recall my password.

Don’t worry. New Zealand Blue Chip members don’t need a password to log in. Just ensure that you’re on the New Zealand website (www.thrifty.co.nz). Your only log in requirement is your membership number and surname. If you can’t remember your surname we suggest looking at a FAQ page on an altogether different website.

What reward programmes are available through Thrifty?

There’s the AA Smartfuel programme, where you can save 5 cents per litre per rental with Thrifty. You can also earn points through Virgin’s Velocity Frequent Flyer Programme.

My details have changed that are stored in my Blue Chip profile. Can I update my details?

Of course! We have an update your profile page. After entering your Blue Chip number and surname you’ll be able to amend your details, such as your address, drivers licence expiry, email address and billing details.
