Car Rental Nelson Airport

Nelson is located on the top of the South Island, and is an area filled with abundant sunshine, beautiful nature and a vibrant cultural scene. Nelson is known worldwide for its arts scene; it is no wonder the Jens Hansen Goldsmiths of Nelson were chosen to design the ‘One Ring’ in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy. Walk around the Nelson CBD and stop at any glass blowers, smiths, potters, painters, carvers and other artisans to see the natural talent the people of Nelson possess.

Nelson has an abundance of natural beauty, all within driving distance in your car hire. With plenty of walking trails weaving their way through spectacular national parks, these national parks contain ancient forests, clear natural springs, white sand beaches, sheltered bays and more. All within driving distance, you have the Nelson Lakes National Park, Kahurangi National Park, the Tonga Island Marine Reserve and the Westhaven Inlet Marine Reserve.

Drive Around the Best of Nelson in Your Car Hire

Motorheads, head on down to the Nelson Classic Car Museum for a unique collection of classic cars. The Museum displays 150 iconic cars, from a 1908 Renault AX through to the bustling road hogs of the American Cadillacs. Inside you will also find a charming little eatery, the aptly named 'Little Engine Eatery'.

Step back in time and tour the Founders Heritage Park. Located a short drive up the road from central Nelson, the park takes guests on a tour of the past. See what life was like from the 1880s to the 1930s. At Founders Heritage Park, you can do more than just see history; you can taste it at the Hop & Beer Museum! Learn about the brewing process and explore the replica brewing station. Perhaps the most popular attraction is the Nelson Railway Society, complete with a running train. Check the Founders Park website to see if the train is running.

Within the park are many working artisans whose work you can watch being made and purchase if it takes your fancy, with dedicated furniture makers to photographers, illustrators, and metal forgers. Whether you're keen to enjoy all the park's activities, or stroll around the gardens and enjoy a picnic, the Founders Heritage Park is a great day out.

New Zealand is often called the most picturesque country in the world, and Nelson continues that notion and then some. With beautiful National Parks offering a wide range of outdoor activities, you could spend weeks enjoying the stunning views the Nelson area has to offer.
