Space Place at Carter Observatory
Have a budding astronaut amongst the ranks? Space Place at Carter Observatory showcases a range of virtual space experiences that are fun and educational. Learn about our galaxy and beyond through their virtual exhibits, galleries and full dome planetarium.
Thrifty Tip: The Wellington Cable Car heads straight up the hillside to Space Place and is a great transport option as parking is limited at the top.
This beautiful wildlife reserve is located less than an hour’s drive from Wellington and is a lovely day trip option for those wanting to get outdoors and connect with nature. Explore the different habitats and the animals that reside there, have a warm drink at the café onsite and relax amongst the native bush surroundings. Want a nature fix closer to the city? Head to Wellington Zoo or Zealandia.
Thrifty Tip: At certain times of the year there is a baby boom – head to Staglands between October and February to see the baby animals at play.
They do say that you can’t beat Wellington on a good day, and if it is a good day let’s get out and play! Wellington has a number of great playgrounds scattered around the city, such as Frank Kitts Park, Central Park and the Botanical gardens. Often accompanied by ice-cream van’s or one of Wellingtons iconic coffee carts, adults can relax with a caffeine fix while the kids burn some energy for free.
