Thrifty Car Rental is reassuring customers that have had to leave rental cars in Kaikōura because of the earthquake, that they will not be charged costs for relocation or any additional unused days.

Emma Gardiner, General Manager, Thrifty Car Rental says that the company has up to 30 vehicles located in and around Kaikōura and that customers will not be charged for relocation of these vehicles.

In addition, the company has a commitment to assisting with the emergency response and has made these vehicles available for use to emergency personnel working in the region so that they can continue with their valuable work.

“This event has had a minimum effect on our business and our main priority is providing support to our customers as they are evacuated and making our resources available for the response effort where we can. This support could include providing customers with a substitute vehicle if required.

“We have been making contact with customers whose vehicles have not been returned to ensure their safety and will continue to do this over the coming days,” says Emma Gardiner.

Thrifty Car Rental will make an offer to residents of Kaikōura that when the public roads to Christchurch open, they will be given the opportunity of relocating cars to Christchurch free-of-charge and the company will pay for a tank of fuel.

“We know that this community has been struck hard by the quakes and our thoughts are with them. Once the road is open, those residents or emergency workers that want to travel to Christchurch will be able to bring one of our cars back at absolutely no cost to them,” says Gardiner.
