This week Thrifty launched their new fleet of scooters – available at their two Picton locations through summer.
The EURO 50, 49cc scooters will be available from December 16 2014 and will give visitors to the region another option for getting around.
Thrifty’s General Manager Emma Gardiner thinks the scooters will be an attractive option for international visitors, particularly backpackers as well as Kiwi holiday makers wanting to explore the Marlborough region.
“The scooters look really stylish, are economical on fuel, affordable to hire and easy to park. If you are camping in say Waikawa Bay, they’d be a great way to nip into town for supplies” says Ms Gardiner. “We think they’ll be a lot of fun, but they’ll also make a lot of sense for visitors who aren’t travelling far but want to have a good look around.”
Tracy Johnston, General Manager, Destination Marlborough says “This is a brilliant idea and provides another great option for visitors to set off and explore the seaport town of Picton and discover some wonderful vantage points of the Marlborough Sounds.”
The scooters are available for hire to anyone holding a valid full drivers’ licence for $52 per day including insurance, a helmet and a high-vis safety vest.
Thrifty has two locations in Picton including 109 High Street and at the Ferry Terminal. The scooters will be available from December 16 2014.
While the scooters will only be available at Thrifty’s Picton locations, the company will review the success of the project and consider offering scooters for hire at other locations in the future.
