Take in the Sights, with Thrifty at Dunedin Airport

Dunedin is a city with plenty of history and culture. As one of New Zealand’s first three cities, it’s got a proud history behind it too. Dunedin has some spectacular Edwardian and Victorian architecture - in fact, it’s some of the best in the Southern Hemisphere. Make sure to walk around the city and take in the gothic church spires, fascinating building details, and ornate architecture.

Dunedin has plenty to do and see while here, especially in the city centre. Learn about the history of Dunedin and New Zealand at the Toitu Otago Early Settlers Museum and the Otago Museum. Or venture outside and learn about the Chinese links with the city as you wander through the Dunedin Chinese Gardens.

Once your exploring has finished, don’t forget about the food! Dunedin has delicious restaurants for you to enjoy, so come hungry. Dine at the delicious Titi Restaurant, which is sat right on the water, or the luxe Press Club for a fancy night out! Wherever you go, you will have a great time.

Drive the Roads of Dunedin and More, with Thrifty

Around Dunedin itself, there are some gorgeous villages and walkways. Head to the Otago Peninsula to drive along the winding roads and discover Larnach Castle as well as some wildlife encounters. See if you can spot a penguin or an albatross while you’re there. Dunedin is named New Zealand’s Wildlife Capital for a reason!

If you fancy a true road trip, it’s time to head to Queenstown. Just 3.5 hours away, Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand. Here, you’ll discover endless Lord of the Rings themed adventures, like boat rides, horseback treks, and more. Take a tour to Milford Sounds, where you’ll see the true Misty Mountains and Mirror Lakes! And don’t forget to stop by Fergburger on your way home.
